What We’ve Done
Here are a few things we’ve accomplished, together.
Individual & family grocery delivery
Since March, we have provided food to over 400 unique households, more than 1,000 individuals in more than 20 neighborhoods across all 5 Boroughs
Since March 2020, we have been delivering groceries and household necessities to households in the West Brooklyn area
If you’re interested in helping out, consider becoming a runner or a dispatcher.
Bulk grocery delivery
Since June, we’ve worked with local organizers to connect a food-insecure community in Canarsie to resources.
Among other things, we’ve:
Delivered free groceries once a week to 50-75 people at Bay View Houses (13 weeks and counting!)
Delivered free meals from World Central Kitchen 3x a week to Bay View Houses
Fresh produce
Since April, we’ve provided 200-300 lbs of free, fresh produce, chicken and eggs weekly to the Wyckoff Senior Center at Gowanus Houses.
Baby essentials
Since April, we’ve provided essential baby supplies to over 40 households, including over 7,000 diapers.
Heat relief
This past summer, we sourced and delivered more than 50 donated A/Cs to households throughout Brooklyn.
According to city data, an average of 113 people die in NYC each year from heat associated causes. Seniors, people with disabilities and people without access to air conditioning are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illness and death. Yet despite knowing the dangers - and despite the fact that cooling centers are not open during the pandemic - the city was slow in getting vulnerable members of our community access to air conditioning. Our volunteers sourced and delivered A/Cs for community members who desperately needed them.

While WBWMA is based in West Brooklyn, we recognize that our well-being, health and freedom is interconnected with the well-being of our neighbors and we are committed to working with community members throughout Brooklyn.
